BLOOMING GROVE – A car crash late Sunday night on westbound Route 17 in Blooming Grove sent three people to the hospital with serious burns. The highway was shut down in both directions as three medivac helicopters landed to transport the injured to area hospitals.

NY State Police said the overturned vehicle likely struck a guard rail before rolling on its side and bursting into flames at exit 129 at Museum Village Road. Hatzolah volunteers and other mutual aid fire dept companies assisted in helping the patients. Medivac helicopters took the patients to Westchester medical hospital. There was no immediate word as to what caused the crash on the busy highway as people were returning home from visiting day and weekend in the Catskills.
