Video:National Weather Service Confirms Tornado Touched Down in New York

The EF1 tornado touched down in Wappinger as powerful storms moved through the tri-state area, punishing some spots with golf ball-sized hail and toppling trees.


EF1 tornado, the fourth most powerful on the scale, touched down in Dutchess County, New York, Wednesday as powerful storms ripped through parts of the region, the National Weather Service confirmed.

The National Weather Service said the tornado with an estimated maximum wind speed of 100 mph ripped through a 1.25-mile swath of the Hudson Valley town of Wappinger at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday, leaving a trail of snapped trees and lifting a roof off a shed before dissipating.
