QUEENS, NEW YORK
Two NYPD officers were shot responding to an apparent armed robbery at a store in Queens on Tuesday evening. A police official told the Associated Press that one cop was killed and another wounded.
The union that represents uniformed officers posted online that a detective died and a sergeant was hurt.
A massive police presence formed at Atlantic Avenue and 120th Street in Richmond Hill, according to videos posted to Citizen app.
Witnesses told Fox 5’s Stacey Delikat that they heard multiple shots coming from a T-Mobile store and then saw first responders rush down Atlantic Avenue. Officers are going door-to-door looking for security cameras that may have captured what happened.
Commissioner James O’Neill‘s Twitter account posted at 6:39 p.m. that the incident appears to be an armed robbery.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and several other city officials are at Jamaica Hospital Trauma Center.
“Due to police activity, please avoid the area of Atlantic Ave & 120th Street in Queens,” the department tweeted. “Expect a heavy police presence.
