NEW YORK The reigning champions of the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island were again crowned the winners Thursday.
Miki Sudo ate 31 hot dogs in 10 minutes, winning the women’s competition for the sixth time. Last year, she ate 37.
Joey Chestnut ate 71 hot dogs to win the men’s competition for the 12th time. Chestnut holds the men’s world record with 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
Chestnut spoke to GifterInGotham after the eating contest and said he as disappointed by not breaking his own record of eating 74 hot dogs in ten minutes but said he got the win.
Chestnut added he was exhausted and when asked how many more years he can do this eating contest he said, “As long as I’m healthy and as long as I am happy and competitive, you can count me in”.

There was a sea of people in every direction at the competition, and the energy from the crowd was strong and loud with cheering from all directions.
NYPD commissioner James O’Neill thanked the crowd and the men and woman in blue for doing a great job in keeping everyone safe and while being away from their families which takes strong dedication to the job.
The annual Coney Island fireworks show is set to start around 9:30 p.m.
