Exclusive: Yoni Hikind Running For David Greenfield’s Open Council Seat

BROOKLYN –  In what is could be perceived as the biggest circus announcement since the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey closed up shop, Yoni Hikind, the son of Assemblyman Dov Hikind, announced on Tuesday an independent bid to replace Councilman David Greenfield in the 44th Council district.

Yoni Hikind will be running on an independent line against Kalman Yeger, who has the Democratic and Conservative Party lines.

“There are people who know my father and know that’s not what it’s about for them and people who know me and know that that’s certainly not what it’s about for me,” Yoni told the NY Daily News. “There’s (an) open seat which is now going to have a race as opposed to no one opposing Mr. Yeger, and there’s someone named Yoni Hikind who wants the voters to have the choice about who will represent them in the Council.”

Hikind said he will begin collecting petitions Wednesday, to run on his own line called “Our Neighborhood.”

Yoni has been preparing to run for public office for the past few years. In 2012, Gifter In Gotham media asked Assemblyman Dov Hikind if his son will be running for office, but Hikind refused to give a clear answer.
