Aaron Judge breaks Mark McGwire’s rookie home run record with 50th Home Run

NEW YORK  All rise! Aaron Judge ripped two home runs for the second consecutive day to tie and eclipse Mark McGwire’s single-season MLB record for home runs by a rookie, belting his 49th and 50th of the year during Monday’s game against Kansas City at the Stadium. McGwire had clubbed 49 for Oakland in 1987.

Judge’s two-run blast to the opposite field in the third inning against Royals righty Jakob Junis tied the mark and also gave him at least one home run against every American League opponent this season.

The All-Star right fielder joins Roger Maris, Babe Ruth (four times), Mickey Mantle (twice) and Alex Rodriguez as the only players in franchise history to hit as many as 50 home runs in one year.
